Dan joined Shoreline Partners in 2018 as a Managing Director. Although based in Grand Forks, ND, and Minneapolis, MN, he serves privately held companies throughout the Midwest, Southwest Florida and the Phoenix area. Dan also specializes in assisting companies in the aviation sector nationwide, bringing over 20 years of aviation and business experience to the Shoreline team.
Born in Indiana, a family move brought Dan to San Diego at an early age. After graduating from high school, he pursued his dream of becoming a pilot, enrolling in the commercial aviation program at the University of North Dakota. Upon graduation, Dan worked full time for the University, initially as a Line Flight Instructor. He was quickly promoted to Lead Instructor / Flight Manager, and then assumed duties as Check Airman, and Academic Lecturer.
After several years in industry as a United Express airline pilot and Cirrus Design factory instructor, Dan returned to UND in 2005 to assist in the development of the Tokai University (Japan) and UND partnership. In this role, he became one of the first non-national JCAB (Japan Civil Aviation Bureau) Designated Pilot Examiners. This required several trips to Tokyo for training and examinations. After completing an MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2006, Dan accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at UND. He received academic tenure in 2011 and served on numerous committees and advisory functions for UND.
In 2010 Dan co-founded Valley Medflight, a regional air ambulance company based in Grand Forks. The company grew to four bases in only two years, flying 6 Pilatus PC-12 aircraft with over 40 full time employees. Dan and his two partners successfully sold the company to a large national operator in 2013. Dan has also been a principal in several small aviation service providers.
Dan holds a FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate (ATPL) for airplane multi-engine land aircraft, with single pilot type rating for the Citation CJ (CE-525) jet series. He also holds commercial privileges for single engine land aircraft, and has high altitude, high performance, complex, and tail wheel endorsements. He is a FAA Certified Flight Instructor in both single and multi-engine aircraft, with instrument rating. He is also certificated by the JCAB and holds both Commercial Pilots License (CPL) and Instrument Rating (IR), in multi engine piston and turbine aircraft.
Dan serves as a board member, mentor, and coach for many individuals and businesses. During his time at UND, he actively participated in numerous roles for the Center for Innovation, helping small business formation and growth. He has assisted and advised a broad spectrum of organizations from unmanned aircraft companies to business jet operators.
Dan, his wife Katie, and four children reside in a log home (left) he built in rural Manvel, North Dakota.
